The girls love to make themselves Shirley Temples (and the occasional Roy Rogers). So when we ran out of grenadine, I decided we could make our own.
And WOW. It is SOOO much better than the neon red stuff. A much richer sweetness without all the cloying sugary-ness. Not to mention no preservatives. And you can control how thick you want it to be by adjusting how long you simmer it for. I made this batch a little more toward juice than syrup.
Here’s the recipe. The only thing that was tough to find was the orange-flower water.
I ended up buying a bottle (and one of rose water, which smells lovely when added to a hot bath) on Amazon because I couldn’t find it locally, but I didn’t hunt around much. Whole Food didn’t have it, but maybe some Middle Eastern markets might have.
