Tumbling Back Home

The bits of Internet goodness that get stuck in my teeth.

On Friday, an Internal Revenue Service official disclosed for the first time, and by way of apologizing, that the agency that wields the taxing power of the federal government had targeted conservative groups for special scrutiny during the 2012 election season.

Politics at its finest.

Reforming government is always the last resort of politicians — and tried only after they have exhausted every imaginable way to pry more money from taxpayers in order to fund the status quo and those who benefit from it.

Grover Norquist, “Why Republicans Should Never Raise Taxes

If I let my children watch as much TV as they wanted, they’d never read a book or go outside to play.

If we continue to let the government raise our taxes, they’ll never do the hard work of fixing what is painfully, obviously wrong with the system.

We have to stop settling for what is easy and start demanding what is best.

The Gun Debate is a Culture Debate

This is a really honest assessment of the current divide on gun control. It clearly looks at why pro-gun folks are so staunch in protecting their rights, and why anti-gun folks are often so bigoted (yes, bigoted) and incredulous that honest, law-abiding citizens would even want a gun.

Some Americans teach their children that gun ownership is a right a responsibility, and that guns are tools to respect and enjoy. Others discipline five-year olds for fashioning pretend guns out of pipe cleaners; they view guns with something resembling disgust.

Productive conversations about guns can thus be difficult because the anti-gun movement gives little to no weight to the values of private gun ownership. That is because “gun disgust” engenders a bias against guns.

Between 2002 and 2010, an estimated 17, 616 patients presented to US emergency departments with trouser zip injuries to the genitals. The penis was almost always the only genital organ involved. Zip injuries represented nearly one-fifth of all penile injuries. Amongst adults, zips were the most frequent cause of penile injuries.

Ban all non-button fly pants! It’s the only solution to ensure male genital safety!!

If Joe Biden was in my family, I think he’d be loved as a likeable, clueless uncle who never realized we’re no longer in 1975. Unfortunately, he’s the Vice President and people actually listen to him.

This short video is a wonderful juxaposition of Joe Biden’s terrible home defense suggestions and the actual truth about shotguns and AR-15’s.

First he gives terrible dining advice, and now he wants his wife to break her shoulder. Aww, that kooky Uncle Joe!

Ladies, you want a gun for self defense? Buy a .38 revolver and learn how to use it. Don’t listen to the Veep.

There is no doubt we need additional revenue, coupled with smart spending reductions, in order to bring down our deficit. And we can do it in a gradual way so that it doesn’t have a huge impact.

President Obama

The president is really good about following through on his promises to raise taxes, aka “additional revenue”. When is he going to start being as reliable about reducing spending? Tell me one significant spending cut he has proposed and enacted.

You literally, mathmatically cannot tax America enough to make up for the deficit. We have to have spending cuts and entitlement reform in order to balance the budget.

Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is perhaps the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few.

James Madison (1795)

Why aren’t we out of Afghanistan yet? And Iraq? Hmmm…
